Psalms 119:165
165 Great peace have those who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble. (NIV)
Peace. What is peace?
In the same way that truth has been eroded to the point where society accepts relative truth based on circumstances and individual preferences, peace also appears to be lost in our society. We no longer know what it means because true peace is so rare.

To a large extent, peace has been reduced to finding calmness amidst stressful moments. However, the peace of God moves way beyond calmness. The Hebrew word is ‘shalom.’ It means having peace, which is characterized by a sense of complete safety in all matters of life. Peace, at this level, is elusive. It can only be found when our faith is unwavering, knowing that God will supply all that we need and allow trouble only to increase our capacity for greater blessings. If this is true, we have nothing to fear, no one to fear. God will provide. On some level, most believers would claim God as their provider, but peace comes from resolute faith that God will provide for every need.
We struggle with this often because we are unsure if God will always provide. Intellectually, we may agree with the concept, but when it comes down to it, we fear He will not. The second reason we struggle to find peace is that our desire is for God to provide for us in the exact way we want. For example, when we are worried about losing our job, we want God to provide by helping us keep our job, forgetting that God can just as easily give us a new job, just as He gave us our current job.
To find peace, we must allow God to provide according to His divine wisdom, more than our preferences. Then, we are on our way to peace.
Prayer: Lord, let me remember that Your ways are not only higher, but better for me. Help me to release control of how You provide, so peace will fill my heart. Amen.
