James 3:17 (NIV)
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Our passage this week will focus on the wisdom of God. We have to distinguish the wisdom of God because there is also wisdom from this world. However, the wisdom of this world rejects God and knows Him not (1 Corinthians 1:21). Rejecting the origin of all thought will, of course, make the wisdom of this world foolish compared to God’s wisdom. However, God's wisdom is not simply a list of proverbs to memorize. The wisdom of God is spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:13). It comes by the Holy Spirit. For the wisdom of God to manifest in our logic and thoughts, we must be aligned with the Holy Spirit. This is the crux of our passage today. Without abiding by the Holy Spirit in thought, attitude, and behavior, our human minds will default to the world’s wisdom and make a fool out of us.

We also hear from the Holy Spirit through the pen of King Solomon that wisdom is of the utmost importance. We are taught in the Proverbs to get godly wisdom even if it costs us everything (Proverbs 4:7).
To navigate the complexities of our world, we need dexterity of mind, the ability to judge and discern what is from God and what is not. We must see each moment through the eyes of the Holy Spirit with understanding to know what to do with this discernment. Without the wisdom of God, we are easily fooled. We miss the truth. False teachings and doctrines hoodwink us, and we are pulled into the ocean of foolishness, which is the way of our world. This week, I challenge you to get wisdom no matter what it takes.
Prayer: Lord, this week, prepare me as I read these devotions that I might pursue You in spirit to find Your wisdom. Amen.
