Peace-Loving Wisdom

Updated: Jun 12

The wisdom of Heaven is peace-loving.

People can prioritize peace or proving themselves to be correct. In a difficult situation, those are the only two choices. The wisdom of God looks first for a path to peace.

To be peace-loving, we must do all we can to live peacefully with everyone. We cannot guarantee this will happen. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, could not live peacefully with everyone. Some people do not want peace. They desire submission to their will or their idea from everyone else. Living at peace does not mean we agree with things we disagree with. However, if a person can release their need for our submission, we can find a way to live at peace with them.

We can agree to disagree. We can be pleasant. We can be good listeners and respect their opinions even if we do not agree with them. But if they require our agreement to their point of view to live at peace with us, then we can only be pleasant, kind, and patient in our words, but we can’t force them to reciprocate.

A man walks alone down a sunlit forest path surrounded by tall trees, while a radiant white dove hovers above him in the light. A shadowy figure stands quietly among the trees in the background, symbolizing the tension between peace and conflict.

To prioritize peace, we also must trust God’s presence more than always finding the right answer, which is the key to experiencing the best life. If we believe our best life is dependent upon always having the most perfect answer, we will be stressed. We will become one of those who require others to submit to our thoughts. We will dominate others or fight with them, and the Spirit does not help us when we prioritize proving to others we are correct.

Because the Holy Spirit gives us God’s wisdom, we forfeit wisdom when we grieve the Holy Spirit by elevating opinions or thoughts above loving those we are talking to with patience and kindness. We must love peace more than we love being right.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust that if I stay in communion with You, You will bless me even when I don’t have the correct answers. Amen.
