Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
God’s Kingdom consists of the highest form of everything that allows us to flourish in our spirit. It is the very best of everything. Yet Jesus does not command us to seek His Kingdom alone. He also calls us to seek His righteousness.

Righteousness is behavior that flows out of a heart and mind aligned with the Word of God. We must allow the Holy Spirit to shape our emotions and intellect so that we pursue the ways and things of God. Without the pursuit of righteousness, we can deceive ourselves into believing we are seeking God’s Kingdom, when in reality we are simply pursuing what we think is best. Without spiritual discernment, even good things can lead us away from God’s best.
Seek First God's Kingdom
When our hearts and minds are aligned with God’s Word, His will, and His heart, we gain a new perspective and true discernment. Scripture tells us that the ways of man seem right, but they lead to destruction. We can chase after things that appear good—even godly—but still find ourselves settling for less than God’s best or allowing something good to become a temptation by placing it above God in our hearts.
But when we seek first God's kingdom and what is truly best while also allowing ourselves to be formed in His righteousness, we experience blessings we never could have manufactured. We begin to see God bring good things into our lives that we were not even striving for. His kindness begins to overflow into every area of our lives.
Prayer
Lord, do not let me prioritize what I believe is best. Instead, help me make Your righteousness my highest priority. Amen.
