John 18:37-38
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. (NIV)
When Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” he was posing the same question that our world asks today. There are two competing philosophies. There is God’s way and the world’s way. And the contrast has never been more visible than it is today. We see the trails of each philosophy in the lives of those around us, those we encounter on social media, and those we watch from a distance in pop culture.
Jesus referred to Himself as the truth. His life exemplifies God’s way to abundant life. He lived sacrificially to help others see that their best life would also come from living sacrificially for others. Jesus compares this life to taking up a cross because encouragement to people to not live for themselves will always be met with opposition.

The world has its own truth, though it is a false truth. It deceitfully promises the best life if we prioritize our desires over the needs of others, pursue wealth more than charity, prioritize comfort over sacrifice, prioritize pleasure over discipline, and elevate our reasoning above God’s. But look around. Those who live like this are not living a good life. They may have the pleasures of this world, but they are never satisfied. They are never content. They have no peace. They experience momentary and empty high points while drowning in bitterness, emptiness, and depression.
The evidence of God's truth is clear, regardless of one's thoughts on the Bible or God. God’s truth is real. The world lures people into an ambush that destroys their lives. Let us decide today to choose God’s truth made evident and possible in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Lord, help me to take note of the evidence all around me that Your way is the only way to truly experience a wonderful and fulfilling life. Amen.
