Walking in the Light of Christ in a Dark World

John 8:1212 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (NIV)

The Christian journey is a walk through the darkness as we hold onto the Light.

We crave clarity. We crave understanding. We want to know we are making the right choices at the right moments with the right people for our good. The hard reality is that we don’t always know, and we can’t always know. This world is a dark place, and even good people can suddenly find themselves in the dark. Those who were the right people are suddenly not. Tomorrow is dark. Next year is uncertain. We can’t even see what might happen in the next few minutes. We are walking in obscurity. But we do have a Light.

"A person walking on a dim path illuminated by a single bright light representing Jesus’ guidance."

Isaiah 60:1–2 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.2 See, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you, and his glory appears over you. (NIV)

We are covered in darkness, but we can see Him. He is our Light, and there is no darkness in the Light. The weight has lifted. We do not need to be able to see into the darkness to ensure we are always making the right choices. We only need to see Him and never let go. He has no confusion. He has seen the end from the beginning. He has known every tomorrow of our lives since the beginning of time. He knows the right people, the right choices, the right moments. We follow the Light, and He guides us through this dark world. Though we are blind, He sees everything. Darkness flees as He leads us by His eternal light.

Prayer: Lord, teach me not to worry about tomorrow and to keep my eyes on You. Help me walk in Your light and trust You even when I cannot see the path ahead. Amen.
