Zechariah 14:9 (NIV)
9 The LORD will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one LORD, and his name the only name.
Zechariah 14 teaches us about the end times.
When Christ spoke to His disciples of the end days in Matthew 24, He noted believers would be handed over to be persecuted, put to death, and hated by all nations because of Him. Throughout the ages, we have seen instances where this has been true to some degree. We have not yet seen a time when all nations will hate Christianity. But that day is coming.

He continues noting a severe increase in wickedness and love waxing cold. This is a phrase we are not familiar with, but simply put, love will become like wax figures. They have a semblance of the actual target of their creation, but it is still a wax figure without substance. Love will become something like the love we know from God, but without substance. It will be much of what we see today, where people only love those who give them free rein to do whatever they choose, even when it is destructive to their lives. At the same time, wickedness will increase. Wickedness will be front and center without apology. Both the waxing of love and the increase of wickedness have reached a boiling point in terms of morality.
Jesus finishes His thought, saying many will fall away from the faith, but those who stand firm to the end will be saved.
Is it not true that we are facing temptations like never before these days? We are nearing the Zechariah 14 end times. The audacity of wickedness surprises and shocks. The tribalization of society along political and moral lines produces more of the same, as well as intense anger between those with differing thoughts and opinions. The schemes of the enemy do not run linearly. Like a nova star, they are an explosion of subtle and not-so-subtle forces working to pull us away from our Lord.
The Apostle Paul lived during a time when all the signs of the end were present in his geographical region. His response is to discipline his body and mind in communion with God. If we want to hold on to our faith in these prophetical times, we must be disciplined. The day is coming, and it is coming soon, and we must be ready.
Prayer: Lord, help me to resist the god of this age and the milieu of this wicked age. I need Your help. Amen.
