Rest in Jesus: Finding Peace and Spiritual Renewal

John 1:1-2

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. (NIV)

Jesus, the Word, calls to us. He offers rest for our souls. He is more than qualified to provide a spiritual rest that surpasses anything that might prevent us from experiencing perfect peace in any situation. His qualification to offer this is grounded in the fact that He is God, that He is eternal, and that He exists above the fray, with power to invade this world at any time for the sake of His children.

Listen to His words:

Matthew 11:27-30

27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (NIV)

Authority over any and everything that exists inside of Creation belongs to Jesus. He has power to do as He chooses. And what He chooses to do in and around us is based on His full knowledge of the difficulties found in the human experience. Everything that happens—good and bad—is under His authority. He allows only enough hardship for us to increase our faith so that we might be molded further into His image, having His heart and mind.

peace and rest with Jesus

When the hardship has accomplished its goal, He can blow it away with less effort than it takes us to blow away the fluffy seeds of a dandelion. He is in control, whether our situation feels under control or not. When this finally hits home deep in our spirit, we can rest. The authority of all our hardships loves us too much to let us be destroyed, yet loves us enough to allow us to receive greater faith and peace. We rest in Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, let me live in the peace of Your eternal existence and absolute power over all things. Amen.
